Te Waka Ako’s Novel study 2022

Hey bloggers today I am going to share the process of going through to finish our novel study.

The process was hard and long. We had to do a lot of things leading up to the moment we could even do this blog post! We are going to seesaw this work along with a few other things. I like how we did all of this work so our parents can all be proud of us. I loved every second of my time that I got to spend and get to know my friends. it was fin and cool. Plus it is something that I got to work on for a long time. I was nice to think that this could be something we could do on our own account of how much we did at a time and fast and good it was. We got to work with our friends as long if we were focused to our work and not focusing on our conversations about anything.

we had to make an extra slideshow called a DLO. We had to picked something to investigate about and then find out as much on the topic that we could.

well here are some photo’s and I’ll see you next week!

2022 Refection

Hey bloggers to day I am going to share my refection of 2022 at my amazing school Waikowhai Primary school.

The event that I remember the most was camp. The reason that I remember it so well is because it was my first time going on a real camp with or without my parents. The event that I enjoyed the most is again camp. I enjoyed the fact I got to live with all my classes and also have a great time with my dad there. The subject I think I have made the most progress on is math. I was so bad at math and then from 32 in my basic facts test to 100 in a couple of months!

The subject that I enjoyed the most was English because I love writing stories and I makeup stories all the time when I’m at home.  The new friendships that I’ve made is Lewis, Paige, Zara, Josie and a few others.  It just when you hang out with the same people for nearly six years it can get pretty boring so I thought that it would be cool to have a change in friends.

I have been involved in some opportunities and responsibility’s at school. I have completed Av room monitor, Sports room monitor, leadership and more. I have loved all the things that I got to be apart of. But I also love these opportunities because it makes my mom feel proud of me and how well I am doing in school.

In conclusion what I have really enjoyed about 2022 is that I have made so many friends here and I love all of the activities that you get to be apart of. Being a Waikowhai kid is the best thing you can asked for.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog post.

Celebrating Parihaka

Hey bloggers! How are ya’ll dong today? Today I am going to tell you about how we celebrated Parihaka at my school. On the 3rd of November 2022 we learned that the White man took a lot of the Maori’s land and two Maori leaders made a place or the people who lost their land so they can have a place to live and safe.

Then the white people wanted to take over the land that had the place where the people were living because their land got token by the white people. that’s when the Maori started to protest They pulled up the servery pegs and they danced and sang. When the white man came to kick the people out of their land they were met by singing and dancing by children and women. I don’t know how it turned out but what I do know is that the white man said they only had one hour to leave. But the Maori didn’t move and the women and children kept on dancing and singing. Whereas the men sat there and singing along with the women.

Now I am going to explain what we are doing to celebrate Parihaka. We found out that the color white meant peace and when the women were singing and dancing there were all wearing a white feather in there hair. So for Parihaka  we designed a headband to wear on the day. Second of all we were all asked to wear white to school the next day… today the 4th of November of 2022. when we were writing this blog post my teacher Ms Sands came and took photos of us wearing our headbands.

Here is my photo

Thanks for looking at this blog post be sure to check to see if I have a new post up. Love you all.

The Black Ferns!

Hey bloggers! How ya’ll doing today? I hope you guys have had a great day so far. Today I’m going to be talking about the…… BLACK FERNS!!! As you all may know there is a new member of the Black Ferns. Her named is Sylvia Brunt and she is the youngest player to be on the Black Ferns. She is 18 years old and she is a cousin of one of my friends at school here at Waikowhai Primary school! My friends name is Dustine. It must be so cool to have a cousin that is in THE Black Ferns. Plus a fun fact is that she also came to Waikowhai!

The Black ferns how won 3 games already and they in the Quarter final 1. Which I think is a very big achievement… If you ask me. They have an 84.82% winning record in Test match ruby, and are the only women’s international side with a winning record against every opponent.  Since their proper international debut in 1991, the Black Ferns have lost to only four of the 16 nations they have played in test matches.

The Black Ferns started in may 1915. But there is a little issue that is happening. You see… the All Blacks game and the Black Ferns game is on at the same time. So now people who want to watch both games has to only chose one because both games are on at the same time. There are 243 players. Plus Sylvia Brunt was born in January that 1st 2004.

Check these cool pictures! Plus a video of the ed for the Black Ferns. Remember: FLY like a Black Fern, CELEBRATE like a Black Fern, DANCE like a Black Fern, RISE like a Black Fern, BELIEVE like a Blank Fern and FOCUS like a Black Fern. Also my score chart of the black ferns games!

Artifact learning

Hey Bloggers! How ya’ll doing? How is ya day going? Today I’m going to be telling you about my time at the Auckland Museum! Just before term 3 ended. Ms Sands gave us the notice to give us permission to come to the Auckland Museum and ride the bus there. Plus also asking if some parents could come and help with this event. Then the holidays came on. Us students and teachers got two whole weeks off and it was great! So when the 18th of October on Tuesday came around it was time to head to the Museum. We had to be at school around 8:30 am. That wasn’t a problem for most students. But some were came later than others.

There were two buses but before any of us could even get on them. The teachers had to organise the students into groups of 4. Plus since we had to keep our bags in cages we had to share our bag with at least one person. I shared my bag with somebody. Finally we hopped on the buses. On the way we were either playing hand games or talking. Once we got there we got instructions from some people who were hosting us and then we put our bags in cages like they were alive or something! After we did that we went inside the volcano room and it surprised us with the room shaking! it was so much fun and is was super cool!

After being in volcano room we went inside the Maori room to do a scavenger hunt! Then we went inside the classroom and did a few things in there. Plus after that we had some free time before we went back to the area to collect our bags. Then we went back to the school. We had a really fun time at the Auckland Museum! I hope we can go back there soon! Cya bloggers hope you’ll come back next time!

Te Waka Ako’s Show Case!

What’s up bloggers. How are ya’ll? Today I’m going to be telling you about my time at the show case of Te Waka Ako. So have you got your Hot Choc and popcorn? Okay! Let me first tell you about the how the preparation of the show case.

We had been doing the preparation for a long time. We first started the prep last term in term 2. We had to start with our first create project witch was on storms. I chose a flood for my storm. We had 1-2 weeks to look and find information and then for a week we had to make our create project. I had chosen a flood to base my creation on. Then we had to chose what our creation was going to be. I chose a collage. Before we could start our create project we had to A) Get at least 15 facts (if you are working on your own but if you are working with someone else than it is 25 facts) And B) you have to design your creation before you actually start creating it.

Most of the students finished but unfortunately some didn’t get to finished the’r amazing creations. After we finished that we were focusing on other thing like our circle art. But after a while My teachers Ms Sands, Mrs Jones and Mr Hing-Windsor, got us to us to started on our math school models. We had to do at least 3 building’s and a pool on our model.

While we were in the process of making our models we were also starting on our create project for our next Reading activity. The next one was about Natural disasters. All the students had to chose a disaster that had happened in New Zealand. After we chose what disaster we were going to do we had to complete a slideshow to gather up some facts for the create. I chose the disaster called ‘the Wahine Disaster’ and I also choose to do a Newspaper witch I finished. So then I started a painting and then I finished that aswell. So I had nothing else to do because I had also finished the slideshow about my disaster. So I spent the rest of the day help my friend Zara. who needed help finishing her model of a mining disaster.

A day before the Show case Everyone was rushing so bad because they still had so much to do! Te Waka Ako had to pick at least 2 pieces of writing. That was either free writing or something off your writing slideshow. I chose my 2 pieces from the slideshow and I was really proud of myself.

Finally the show case came that night. Me and my Mom, Tracy, Came to the Show case. My dad was meant to come but his co-worker got sick and all the work came crushing down on my dad! Poor dad! Anyways There was a a lot of food (and when I say a lot I mean like 3-4 tables of food!) so the parents could have something to eat while they look at their child’s work. It was a very exciting event. I really enjoyed it there and my friend Zara was able to come too even though she wasn’t planning to come. It was a really fun event for me and all my friends.

When we all finally got bored of hanging out with the grown ups, We all played hand ball outside while suddenly it started raining but we just played in the rain. It felt good to know that you mom felt proud of you. Anyways that’s all for now.

Bye Bloggers!

Circle Art inspired by Zena Elliott’s Current and flow pieces of art.

Hey there bloggers! how are ya all doing? Today I’m going to tell you all about Te Waka Ako’s circle Art! My amazing teacher Ms Sands told me and my class that we were going to do a some circle art. First we had to draw to circles one in the middle and one around the middle. in the middle we had to draw something that represents us for who we are. Of course before we could the art on the big paper we had to do a design in our

Art books. After they were approved by one of our amazing teachers, Mr Hing-Windsor, Ms Sands and Mrs Jones they would give us one big peice of paper and we could copy the design from out books to the big paper. Then after we finished transferring the design from a book to the big piece of paper we were able to start coloring it with pastel. We had to do a lot of blending. So when mine was done I was very proud of it. Even though it only took 1-2 weeks to do. But still.

While we worked on our Art pieces everyone got to laugh have fun and socialize and get to know each other better. Art was a time when everyone could be their selves. Personally I loved it! I think this experience really made an impact on me because they let us show what we love and what really matters to us!

Bye bloggers Hoped you enjoyed reading this post. Be sure to check out more of my posts, Bye!

Writing Class

HI there bloggers! How are you doing? Today I am going to share about writing class on Wednesday.

If you don’t know already writing class is my favourite part of the day! I just love reading and watching videos and then creating a story based on what I’ve seen and read. Plus I love it when Miss McGrath comes in and teaches writing. There just something that I love about how Miss McGrath Teaches writing it’s incredible.

Yesterday we looked at how to use take away speech marks. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s like Miss McGrath said “the language of writing is ridiculous” and I finally think she’s right. like for example

We can report what somebody says without needing to use speech marks. For example,

“I want to be a football star!” announced Paige.

becomes

Paige announced that she wanted to be a football star.

I’m going to show you the piece of writing that I made for this assignment.

so do you understand? If you don’t be sure to leave a comment if you have any questions I see if I can answer them. And tell me how your writing teacher is like.

See ya bloggers!

Family Fun Day

Hi there bloggers! Welcome back to my blog! Hope your all doing well?

Today I am going to do a post on Family Fun Day! On the 11th of March today was a day were your family could come and see you do all sorts of activities but unfortunately because of covid the parents can’t come inside the school grounds. So it was more of a student fun day.

There were so many activities. There were THREE bouncy castles! One of the bouncy castles was a pirate ship ready to sail the 7 seas! There was an amazing slip and slide But it was meant to be another water slide so when you slide down you splash into freezing water! But there was a mix up with the slides and we got a nice dry one instead. To tell the truth I prefer dry inflatable slides. But the last one was a HUGE obstacle course! Cool right?

The First thing me and my class did was the pool and the slip and slide. When I hoped out of the poll and started heading up to the slip and slip a HUGE water slide at the bank (Which is very steep) it was FREEZING! I was so cold I only went one time even though it was very fun! But when I did go I had a big run up and then went the rest of the way down on my knees but the thing is……. I was going WAY faster than all the other kids so I pushed all the cushions that were meant to soften my ending and went all the way onto the grass.

After that, that’s when we went on the bouncy castles. On the obstacle course I even raced my own teacher, Ms Sands! I would like to say she won cause she is the queen of sports but………. I won. OK so any-who next was the pirate ship and the DRY slide. We could chose what we wanted to go on first on so I chose the slide first. it was so much fun but I chose to have a turn or two on the pirate ship there was a Canon (a fake one obviously)

after that we just had to go inside our class room and pack up for the day.

thank you for seeing this blog post be sure to leave a comment and see what your favourite part of the student fun day!

Your Brain Is Like A Muscle/ Lego Maths

HI new bloggers! Welcome to my new blog! But first things first, my name is Aley! I hope you will like all my blog posts in the future.

This week in maths my class and I used Lego to solve math problems. The most hard bit about it was probably the times tables part of it. Especially because it all depended on the studs and not how many blocks there were.   Here is the slide show of what I created.

Also this week I learned id like a muscle! Me and the rest of the class started watching class dojo and one of the video’s showed that your brain is like a muscle. Plus I learned when you make mistakes that makes your brain smarter and stronger! Here is the link to the class dojo video!

Well that is all for now. Hope to see you next time!
